Stitch Fix Maternity Review

So I clearly haven't been too good at this whole blogging thing, but I'm going to attempt to give it another try...

At nearly 20 weeks pregnant, my wardrobe options are pretty limited.  Most of my shopping is done online as going to an actual store and spending time trying on clothes is not an enjoyable experience when your shopping partner is a two-year old. But I find that when I'm shopping online, I end up with some plain black leggings, jeans and basic cotton t-shirts. In an effort to maintain some sense of style during this pregnancy, I decided to give Stitch Fix a whirl.  I've done Stitch Fix several times in the past, but the maternity option wasn't available during my last pregnancy.  Overall, it wasn't a bad experience.  It was nice to have a box of hand-picked clothes sent to my house so I could try on in the comfort of my own home.  I made some changes to my style profile and already have another fix scheduled in about a month.

Here's what I got in my first Stitch Fix Maternity box:

#1 - Loveappella Carlita Multi Chevron Print Maxi Dress
I requested a fun maxi dress for an end of summer party we have coming up.  This particular dress is a thin jersey material that I was initially worried was a little too clingy; but after trying it on multiple times, I decided that it wasn't going to be a good option for our party, but was a great piece to wear on the weekend to run errands, go to lunch/dinner, etc.  I'm just not a shorts-wearing person, so this maxi is a cool summer alternative.  This is probably more than I'd spend on a maxi that was just for running errands, but when you're pregnant, you just have to go with the flow and buy what's comfortable and makes you feel good.
Price: $78.00
Verdict: Kept

#2 - Pixley Bixby Bird Print Tab Sleeve Blouse
I'm not sure I can find an appropriate image that describes my face when I opened my box and saw this blouse on top.  I requested blouses because I do work in a corporate environment and my uniform most days is black pants and a blouse. There were a couple of issues with this top though:
A.) I hate birds. I didn't even want to try on this shirts because it had birds on it.
B.) It was non-maternity.  This was the item that was packaged on top in the box and when I read that it was non-maternity, I started to get a little discouraged.
I tried it on anyway and as suspected, I hated it.  I hated the birds, I hated the boxy fit and most importantly, it did not come near to going over the bump.

Price: $48.00
Verdict: Sent back

#3 - 41Hawthorn Colibri Solid Tab Sleeve Blouse
Another non-maternity top, but I held out hope for this one.
It was a pretty color blue and although I've been trying to add more prints to my closet, this top looks like a great basic that can be worn with skinny pants, tucked in to trousers or with jeans.  Overall, the style and fit were great if I was not pregnant.  Like the top above, I was out of breath trying to fit this over the bump.
Price: $48.00
Verdict: Sent back

#4 - Market & Spruce Albany Ruffle Front Maternity Knit Top
It's hard to tell on the hanger, but this is a maternity top. It's a basic grey tank with ruffle trim.  It looks like a wrap style top, but what I liked about it was the underlayer goes all the way across the chest and stomach, giving you a little bit more coverage.  This wrap top is not going to gape open, which is nice. It's form fitting, but not too tight.  But in the end, it is a pretty basic top.  I struggled with keeping or sending this one back.  It's more than I'd spend on a basic tank (I just bought a grey tank at Target for $12.99), but in the end my mom convinced me to keep it.  I can wear it with jeans or under a blazer or sweater to the office.
Price: $48.00
Verdict: Kept

#5 - Margaret M Emer Maternity Brocade Print High
Waisted Cropped Pant

I wish I was a better photographer.  These pants were super cute.  They were maternity, but just had the elastic inset on the sides, didn't have the full belly coverage.  They had a TON of stretch, which I love, and a darling brocade print (that I'm fully aware you can't see in this photo).  I thought they would be perfect paired with a red blouse or red shoes at the holidays.  I loved these pulling them out of the box.
However, I don't think the stylist realized how curvy I am, because they were too straight for me and I couldn't get them on very far.  They were a medium, my pre-pregnancy size, but maybe a larger size would have worked.  With a sigh, these went in the bag to go back.
Price: $98.00
Verdict: Sent back

Overall, it wasn't a bad experience.  Would I do it again?  Yes. I already have my next fix scheduled to arrive in late September.  The styling fee is $20.00, but if you choose to keep anything, that is deducted from the cost.  Therefore, I think it's worth it to try to keep at least one item so you don't lose that $20.00.  If you decide to keep all five items, you will receive a 25% discount.  When I was receiving these before, I would always bring my box into the office and let friends look through it.  Most of the time, someone found something that didn't work for me that they wanted to keep so we were able to go in on the box and get the 25% discount for keeping all five items.

I'll be back with another Stitch Fix review in late September and hopefully a few more blogs in between!

31 for 31...

Everyone says I should start a blog.  Apparently the random stories I have and the things that happen to me are funny.  Or they just want me to make a fool of myself by publishing it on the interwebs for the world to see.  Anywho, what better time to start a blog than my birthday?   Yesterday, I turned 31 so let's kick this little blog off with a 31 for 31 list. 31 things I was to do in my 31st year.  This little blog will help me keep up with it all!  Ready, set, here we go...

1. Potty train my two-year old. That's right, folks. The number one thing I want to accomplish is to get my kid to use the potty. So far she has no interest, so I've got that going for me.

2. Complete the house. We moved into our new house in January and I still have several of empty rooms and walls. I have ideas, just need to make it happen.

3. Learn to monogram so I can stop paying other people.  This would mean I have to buy an embroidery machine.

4. Read more. On our beach vacation a few weeks ago, I read the first book that I've read in three years. I can't commit to a book and month, but maybe a book every three months?

5. Cook more. We eat out so much.  It would save us a ton of money to eat in more and we'd probably do that if I knew how to cook something other than spaghetti.

6. I'm at number six and already out of ideas. Does this make me a boring person?  Oh, I know what I want to do -- make more time for girlfriends. Sometimes it's hard with work schedules but I love my girlfriends and need to do a better job making time for them!

7. Lose some el-bees. Yeah, how many times have I said that? I guess you don't know since I've never blogged before. Well, I have a ways to go, but I'm going to get my butt in gear - I mean it this time!

8. Declutter. This is another one I've said quite a few times. But I do have at least five huge shopping bags loaded up to take to Goodwill, so I've got a head start.

9. Find a babysitter. I probably should have listed this up closer to number one. I'm so fortunate that my parents keep my little one every day....and every other time I need a sitter. My only backup besides them is my dad's sister and if they're going out together, then I'm just plain out of luck. I would love to find a responsible high school or college student (who will have to pass a background check and blood test, obviously) who I could call on without feeling guilty.  Which leads us to number 10...

10.  More date nights.  Again, probably should have ranked this higher. Date nights are few and far between for us between work schedules and sitter issues. I would love to set up a recurring date night with my husband.

That's enough for today. I think this would be better suited as a series. So stay tuned for Part Two.
